"Warning"

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn how to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickles for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for our children.
We will have friends for dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old and start to wear purple.

This, my friends, is the inspiration for The Red Hat Society and the attitude towards aging that my grandmother (and mum) have passed down to me. Since I'm calling all the humor around here "Attack of the Red Hat", I figured I needed to post this at least once for those of you who haven't gone to college with me. Be what you are and go where you're headed, but don't let it all tie you down. ^_^

Hello, Amy, hope you enjoyed your break from internet. My name is Jonathan Crymes. I was actually looking for your brother whom I used to be good friends with and I found you. It's likely you remember me, or at least the Crymes family from Keystone Academy back home in CA. Anyway, hello! You seem to be doing well and that is nice to see. Tell your brother I say hello. I do not have a blogspot acct or an LJ, but I can be found other places on the interwebs such as myspace (runningbathrobe), facebook (Jonathan Crymes), AIM (jonathancrymes), or good old fashioned email (jdcrymes@gmail) if you or your brother care to return my contact. Thanks, and God bless.
